David M. Denehy
David M. Denehy is the Chief Executive Officer of The Denehy Group an international consulting and business development firm. Prior to assuming this post in November of 2007, Mr. Denehy was a Senior Advisor in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs of the United States Department of State where he served as the Iran Freedom Agenda Coordinator (2005-2007).
Mr. Denehy has been involved in democracy promotion for the past two decades; having served in a number of positions within the U.S. federal government, and worked throughout the former Soviet Union and the Middle East in the public and private sectors. Some of his positions in the federal government have included: Senior Advisor in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor, and Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor.
Prior to these appointments, Mr. Denehy served as an Advisor to Ambassador Paul Bremer on political transition in the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad.
Prior to entering federal service, Mr. Denehy was the Resident Program Director of the International Republican Institute’s Russia program, overseeing programs in Russia, Azerbaijan and Georgia (1996-1998). Mr. Denehy worked for IRI as a consultant and paid staff from 1993-1998.
Before serving with IRI Mr. Denehy was a political operative and consultant on Republican political campaigns for President, US Senate, Congress and other races throughout the country.
Mr. Denehy has a M.A. in International Affairs from Columbia University, and a B.S. in Political Science from Northeastern University.
